Catford Fire live updates as fire at ‘recycling centre’ sees massive billows of smoke

There is currently a fire at a recycling center on Bromley Road, according to reports.

Images and videos on social media show plumes of dark smoke in an industrial-looking area of ​​Bromley Road in Catford, not far from Bellingham train station.




One user claims to have heard “loud bangs” as they drove past the flames in their car.

A video of the scene was posted online by another user X. User dannersfit posted a video of them driving through the smoke billowing in their car. Legend stated that loud bangs were heard as they drove by. It read: “The loud bangs I just heard scared the life out of me, scrapyard is on fire near Catford/Bromley Road/Bellingham station.”

Images from the scene were posted on X, formerly Twitter. User X MBembles posted drone photos of the fire showing bright orange flames at the base of a tall column of thick black smoke. This was posted around 6.30pm but apparently the Fire Brigade are not yet in attendance when some of these were taken. In others they can be seen in the far side spraying their hoses and also with a fire engine on Bromely Road.

The post is captioned: “Fire at recycling facility on Bromley Road, SE6, close to Bellingham station.”

How does the traffic hold up?

Traffic was partially blocked in both directions on Bromley Road, according to traffic analysis service Inrix. This meant traffic was slow in the area while firefighters attended. Google Maps traffic data shows there are delays in the area as well, but queues did not extend massively beyond the scene.

where is the fire

The fire is believed to be on Bromley Road in Catford, near Bellingham railway station. this was reported by posts on X, formerly Twitter, with users posting photos and videos of the scene pouring thick black smoke into the sky. Judging by photographs from the scene, the fire appears to have taken hold in an industrial area at the junction of Bromley Road, Bellingham Road and Randlesdown Road. The London Fire Brigade has yet to comment and confirm the fire.
