A 30-year-old woman dies after being attacked by a pet dog in Coventry

A 30-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a pet dog in Coventry, West Midlands Police said.

Officers were called to a property on Wexford Road at around 12.15pm today following reports of a dog attack.

The force said the woman was treated at the scene by West Midlands The Ambulance Service, “but despite their best efforts she sadly died a short time later.”

“The woman’s family have been informed and our thoughts remain with them following today’s tragedy,” the force added.

The dog was impounded and the death reported to the medical examiner for further investigation.

Police said they do not believe it is a banned breed of dog.

The ambulance service added that the woman was found in a ‘critical condition’ and said: ‘With the help of the police, the woman was quickly removed from the property for safety reasons.

“Ambulance staff performed advanced life support but tragically, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.”

They also said no one else was injured in the incident.
