Yoro reveals Rio’s role in ‘dream’ Utd deal

Leny Yoro has revealed that Rio Ferdinand helped convince him to join Manchester United.

The £52million centre-back, 18, was even excited to chat to the United legend – after rating Ferdinand “one of the best defenders in the world” when watching him as a child.

Yoro told the Red Devils website: “I was very impressed to speak to him and yes, I spoke for about 10 minutes about Man United, so he helped me a lot to make the choice.

“He talked about the club, that this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I have to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world. It was really good to talk about it.”

Club reporter Harry Robinson also delighted and stunned Yoro by showing him a personal video from Ferdinand – in which the former England ace hailed the Frenchman’s potential.

The Under-23 international replied: “It’s crazy!”

Ferdinand told him in the clip: “You’ve got all the potential, you’ve got all the tools, man, you’ve got everything there, ready to rock and roll to make a big impact in this club.”

Yoro replied: “I think everyone watched United when they were young and for me it was a dream to play for this club.”
