Tendulkar’s record in trouble as Vaughan predicts current star to peak

Vaughan expects Root to surpass Alastair Cook’s total of 12,472 runs and become England’s most prolific run-scorer when the team play Pakistan and New Zealand later this year and believes the former skipper can even better the Tendulkar if he continues to perform at his best.

“Joe Root will become England’s leading run-scorer over the next few months and is so special that he may indeed eventually overtake Sachin Tendulkar,” Vaughan wrote of the No.2 Test batsman in world in telegraph.

“As a rock, Root is obviously the key to that and I love that he kept the reverse bowler in the cupboard until he got past 100 (in the second Test against the West Indies) and England’s lead was massive.

“Against an attack like the West Indies in these conditions, you expect him to get a century. He missed in the first half but was so determined to get it right in the second. He was never going to make the same mistakes again.”
