A Coventry woman dies after being mauled by a pet dog

A woman has died after being mauled by her pet dog in Coventry.

The woman, in her 30s, was attacked inside a property on Wexford Road just after midday.


She was found in a critical condition, with police carrying her out due to “safety concerns”.

The woman died shortly after paramedics gave her life support.

The dog was seized by West Midlands Police and the woman’s death was reported to the coroner for further investigation.

West Midlands Police are yet to confirm the breed.

However, officers do not believe the dog is a banned breed.

Chief Inspector David Amos said: “We understand this is a distressing and tragic incident and would like to thank the local community for their support and our colleagues in the emergency services who dealt with this incident.

“Our thoughts remain firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who sadly died and they will inform the coroner of her death.”

A West Midland Ambulance Service spokesman added: “With the help of the police, the woman was quickly removed from the property for safety reasons.”

Emergency services responded by sending police, two ambulances, a paramedic officer and two Midlands Air Ambulances to the scene.

The woman’s family was notified and the death was reported to the medical examiner.
