Wigan Warriors sign Kiwi on two-year deal

Wigan Warriors have confirmed that prop Patrick Mago has signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2026.

There is also an option ‘in favor of the club’ to secure the New Zealand-born forward for the 2027 season.

Having previously played in the NRL for the North Queensland Cowboys, Brisbane Broncos and South Sydney Rabbitohs, he reached Super League in 2022.

With the Warriors, Mago won everything in British rugby league – the Challenge Cup, the League Leaders’ Shield, the Grand Final and the World Club Challenge title in February 2024.

He made 71 appearances for the Warriors, this year being his third.

Mago happy to stay at Wigan Warriors

On signing, he said: “I’m very happy to stay at Wigan for at least another two years after this year. I am really settled here with my family.

“We’ve got an incredible group of players and we’re building something special and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.

“I am grateful for the support I continue to receive from my mother, my father, my partner and the whole family. I hope we can continue to make everyone proud.”

Wigan head coach Matt Peet said: “We are very pleased with the way Patrick has developed on and off the pitch. He earned this contract by working hard and being dedicated.

“I know his family back home in Australia will be proud of him, along with his partner Bella.

“He is a very popular man with his colleagues, staff and fans as he is a quality player, has a good heart and loves the club.”

Wigan chief executive Kris Radlinski added: “Patrick has become a vital member of our playing squad and a valuable member of our club.

“When overseas players join us, it’s important they understand the role they play in representing Wigan. Patrick was incredible in that regard. He bought the culture of our great city and on the ground he leaves it all there.

“He is a popular member of the team and we are delighted that his journey continues with us.”

Mago will be in action as Wigan Warriors take on Hull KR in the Challenge Cup semi-final on Saturday.
