Nottingham Forest want to sign the striker who Pep Guardiola called “incredible” on a free transfer

From Nottingham Forest’s perspective, there will be plenty of transfer rumors circulating – some of which will be legitimate and some of which will simply not.

The Reds have been quite active so far, signing five players with one of them – Marko Stamenic – heading straight to Olympiacos on loan.

However, Forest still have a few gaps to fill in their squad and the off-season business is yet to be completed.

That means some inactive links will continue to appear, one that made the rounds yesterday, which just doesn’t make much sense.

Nottingham Forest have been linked again with Kelechi Iheanacho

This report comes from Soccernet, who believe Forest and Ipswich will battle it out to sign the Nigerian free agent.

Iheanacho spent seven years with Leicester, scoring 61 goals in 232 appearances after signing for the club from Manchester City.

With the Citizens, he won a host of trophies – but not a Premier League crown – and scored 21 goals in 64 appearances.

He is now a free agent and is not the first time he has been linked with a move to Forest since the club returned to the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the forward and called him “fantastic” when he managed him at Leicester five years ago.

If that praise wasn’t enough, Pep Guardiola called him “incredible” when managing him at Manchester City, despite letting him go.

Signing Forest Iheanacho wouldn’t make much sense

Although Iheanacho has a lot of experience in the Premier League, it would not make sense for Forest to give up that much to sign him.

Given that he is a free agent, if the club really wanted him in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, then they would surely have got him by now.

Instead, he remains without a club and is currently doing pre-season training on his own and waiting for the phone to ring.

Last season wasn’t impressive for the 27-year-old either.

Despite Leicester’s dominance of the Championship campaign, Iheanacho has scored just six goals and registered three assists in 26 appearances.

While Iheanacho isn’t a bad player in our view, we just don’t think he’s the right fit for Forest and there are currently better striking options.
