Sheffield Wednesday are in early talks with Scott Wright

Sheffield Wednesday have held tentative talks with Rangers man Scott Wright, who is set to leave Ibrox in the coming weeks, according to TEAMtalk.

Sheffield Wednesday are looking to make big strides in their Championship performances this season.

Danny Rohl’s side avoided relegation on the final day of last season by beating Sunderland 2-0 away.

Now the German boss has made major inroads in the transfer window and is not stopping yet as he looks to add more firepower to his ranks this summer.

Wright, 26, played 33 games for Rangers last season. He scored four goals last season and is now in the final year of his contract in Scotland.

The Owls were linked with him earlier in the month and it was claimed Wright had been offered a contract, but talks of a deal have been quiet.

Now, TEAMtalk has stated that Rohl’s side have held initial discussions with Wright, but no official offer has been made. They claim Wright has “serious interest” and will be leaving in the next two weeks.

Reporter Darren Witcoop added that Preston North End and Derby County are also interested and the Championship is Wright’s likely destination.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

A tough battle

All three second-tier clubs mentioned will be hoping to tempt Wright this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday look the most advanced of the trio who have held early talks, but realistically that doesn’t mean anything is guaranteed to happen as the Owls have other targets they can pursue.

Wright will want consistent football wherever he ends up this summer and will hope he can return to his best when he leaves Rangers.

Next season

Sheffield Wednesday are looking to quickly move up the division this season. The signings they’ve made show their intent and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them break into the top half under Rohl this time around.

Preston North End will be after more consistency. They finished 10th last season but lost their last five games and without that could quite easily have been in the top six.

Meanwhile, Derby County will be looking to survive. They finished 2nd in League One last season and the Rams will be looking to establish themselves in the second tier again. However, the first step to doing so is surviving and avoiding the fall.
