A further five South Wiltshire schools have gained Wiltshire Healthy Schools accreditation for encouraging healthy lifestyles and promoting wellbeing.

It is a Wiltshire Council program where schools have to present evidence to a local multi-agency group describing their school provision and the difference their work has made to health outcomes for pupils.

Several of the award-winning schools were also visited by Wiltshire Youth Advisers, who also gave their feedback on the schools.

Schools can apply for accreditation at three levels: bronze, silver or gold, starting with bronze.

Currently, 131 schools take part in the program, with 80 schools being accredited at either bronze, silver or gold level.

The schools that obtained accreditation in this term are:

• St John’s CofE Primary School, Tisbury – silver award

• Urchfont Primary School – silver award

• Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls CofE Primary School – bronze award

• Pewsey Primary School – bronze award

• St Osmund’s Primary School, Salisbury – bronze award

Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said:

“Our Wiltshire Healthy Schools program recognizes the hard work of our school communities to create a healthy space for pupils to learn and develop.

“We have some amazing initiatives from schools that have stepped back and considered what would really make a difference and they have had a positive impact on students and the whole school community. I am delighted that so many schools have received this award, and I would encourage more to apply in the future.”
