How Trent Alexander-Arnold is really feeling about working with Arne Slot at Liverpool

Gareth Southgate’s experiment of playing the Liverpool man out of position did not go as well as hoped, leading to suggestions that Alexander-Arnold had been ‘hung out to dry’ by the then England manager.

With just one year now left on his contract at Anfield, Trent has also been in the news for potentially leaving his boyhood club in the near future.

Real Madrid have been linked with Alexander-Arnold and as the 25-year-old prepares to return to Liverpool under a new manager, all eyes will be on his early days under Arne Slot.

Trent Alexander-Arnold preparing for Liverpool comeback

Alexander-Arnold was one of the most important players of Jurgen Klopp’s reign at Anfield. His emergence from the academy was perfectly timed.

With Klopp now gone and time running out on his contract though, Liverpool fans will be getting nervous about Trent’s future.

The absence of the only manager he’d ever known with the Reds is obviously playing into that. Just like every other member of the Liverpool squad barring Joe Gomez, Alexander-Arnold is having to get used to a new boss with the club for the first time.

As a result, it’s clear that how the England international views Slot is going to play a big part in just how keen he is to sign onto new terms with Liverpool.

Slot has already decided where Alexander-Arnold will play for him but has not revealed that information publicly just yet. He’s clearly planning ahead with the vice-captain onboard.

And according to The Athletic, Liverpool are now ‘desperate’ to avoid Trent’s contract situation dragging on any longer.

Getting the Scouser tied onto a new deal is said to be ‘a priority’ for sporting director Richard Hughes.

As for Alexander-Arnold himself, he is claimed to be currently enjoying a holiday after losing the Euros final with England. Despite the speculation over his future, Trent is reportedly ‘looking forward to working with Slot’ when he returns to the AXA Training Center in August.

Liverpool racing the clock on Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool could really have done with Alexander-Arnold being back earlier this summer. This situation is helping no one.

Had the right-back been in on day one of Slot and Hughes’ respective reigns, maybe this would have been sorted already.

But although the two camps will likely be in contact to a degree, Alexander-Arnold will have wanted to focus on the Euros and then have a break after another intense season.

By the time Trent arrives reports for the Merseyside campaign, the Premier League season will be just two weeks away from starting. There isn’t a lot of time to sort this out from the moral rig of the football season proper.

It of course helps that Alexander-Arnold is on board with Slot’s appointment and keen to work with the Dutchman. But until the two meet and train together, anxiety will remain over where Trent’s head is really at.
