Sheffield United have broken Swindon’s record in the Premier League

Sheffield United have broken Swindon Town’s Premier League record for most goals conceded in a single season.

For thirty years, Swindon were the only team to ever concede a century of goals in the Premier League, having conceded exactly 100 goals in their only top-flight season in 1993/94.

Town conceded five goals to Leeds United in a 5–0 defeat in their last game to make it three figures, with Town’s 100th goal conceding coming in the 90th minute of that final game.

However, the record has now been broken as, with a game to spare, the Blades conceded 101 goals after a 1-0 defeat at Everton, despite the season now being four games shorter than when Swindon were in the Premier League.

This was the final Premier League record that Swindon still held, with the marks for fewest away wins and longest winless streak among others having already fallen since Town played at that level.

The team that beat John Gorman’s side included two former Swindon players, Wes Foderingham has played 29 of his 37 games in goal this season, as well as former academy defender Jayden Bogle, who has been an ever-present.
