Hoylake and West Kirby RNLI raise more than £5,000 – Birkenhead News

Hoylake and West Kirby RNLI welcomed visitors to Hoylake RNLI Lifeboat Station on Saturday 13th July for a Meet Up Day to raise funds so the volunteer lifeboat crew can continue to save lives at sea.

Volunteer crew members and fundraisers from Hoylake and West Kirby RNLI were joined by colleagues from the Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team and British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) as they welcomed members of the public to view their kit and rescue equipment.

Visitors were invited to explore the station, as well as Hoylake’s all-weather lifeboat, the Shannon-class Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood, and Hovercraft Hurley Spirit.

West Kirby RNLI brought along their D class inshore lifeboat Leonard Pownall for guests to have a look around as well as their all terrain launch vehicle Hagglund BV206 which is the only such vehicle on station in the entire fleet RNLI!

Homemade cakes were on sale alongside RNLI gifts and plenty of games as visitors tried on RNLI kit and threw wet sponges at eager crew members in a bid to raise funds for the station.

Over £5,125 was raised during the event through sales and collections and every penny will go towards supporting the life saving work of Hoylake and West Kirby RNLI.

Crew members were on hand to explain the work of the RNLI and what equipment they use, as well as sharing key water safety information and skills ahead of the summer holidays.

Hoylake RNLI Commander Howie Owen said“The crew had a great time welcoming the public to Hoylake RNLI Lifeboat Station on Saturday.

“It was great to introduce our volunteers and show them the vital equipment we use in our work to save lives at sea, whilst raising money to help us continue to do so.”

A spokesman for the RNLI at West Kirby said, “It was a great event! Seeing the community come together and enjoy the day with Hoylake and West Kirby lifeboat crews along with HM Coastguard and the BDMLR team was fantastic.

“It is a wonderful reminder of the unwavering support of those we serve and inspires us to continue our mission with even greater dedication.

“Thank you for joining us!”
