Another man was shot in the foot the night Ellis Cox died

Two further arrests have been made in connection with the murder of teenager Ellis Cox, police confirmed today. Ellis, 19, was fatally shot on the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree on the evening of Sunday, June 23. After being treated by paramedics at the scene he was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police also revealed that another teenager was shot in the foot on the night of June 23 during the same incident. The young man reportedly self-presented at the hospital and has since been discharged. This will form part of the ongoing police investigation. Today, July 23, police said a 34-year-old man from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm without a certificate.

A 61-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, possession of a controlled Class B drug (cannabis) and possession of a firearm without a certificate. Both men have been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries. Earlier this month, two teenagers were arrested in connection with Ellis’s murder, and were conditionally bailed pending further inquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Although we have made these arrests, I want to urge anyone with information about Ellis’s murder to come forward.

“Our investigation is making progress and I want to thank the community for the information they have provided to us so far. We’re continuing to appeal for any information from anyone who is yet to come forward, the smallest detail of which could be vital to our inquiries.”
