Loughborough Coronation Street icon David Neilson has returned from the set

Coronation Street icon David Neilson has been refused entry to the ITV set. The Loughborough actor has been playing Roy Cropper since the 90s but has not been recognized by staff.

The embarrassing moment happened for the 75-year-old when he tried to enter the set in Manchester, reports the Mirror. Footage captured at the scene showed David, who was born and bred in Loughborough, telling him at the gates: ‘Roy Cropper. I’m on the show.”

The footage, which was originally posted on The Sun, saw many fans flock to David’s side. He was seen in turn telling security guards: ‘Why do you think I’m sitting here signing these? Why do you think?”

The incident saw a number of people commenting online about the security staff’s error. One said: “Security probably didn’t recognize him after he shaved and showered.”

Others defend the guard. One said: “He’s just doing his job.”

David has played the iconic character of Roy since 1995 and has since appeared in around 2,500 episodes. However, the Leicestershire actor has been in other shows than just the Corrie cobblestones. He made appearances in Z-Cars, Young at Heart, Survivors, Bergerac and even Casualty.

David even had a brief stint in EastEnders in the early 1990s and showed off his musical talents in a celebrity edition of Stars in Their Eyes impersonating Roy Orbison. However, his work as Roy is what he is best known for.
