Motorcyclist and family of four tragically die in devastating crash on A61 near Wakefield and Barnsley

Six lives were tragically lost in a devastating incident on the A61 between Wakefield and Barnsley.

Among those killed were Christopher Barton, 56, and his wife Janine Barton, 48.

They were on their motorcycle when the fatal accident occurred on Sunday.

The crash also claimed the lives of Shane Roller, 33, his partner Shannen Morgan, 30, and their young daughters Rubie and Lillie Morgan-Roller, aged nine and four.

The collision involved the Ford Focus and Barton’s motorcycle.

Unfortunately, the only survivor in their family is their eldest daughter, Poppie, who chose not to join the others for the walk that day.

Poppie’s new home and support

Poppie, who was at a friend’s house at the time of the accident, is now set to live with her aunt, described as “an amazing, loving and capable carer”.

Paul Hepple, a family friend who helped with Poppie’s care, launched a GoFundMe campaign to support her.

He assured that the funds would be managed by Poppie’s aunt and used for her welfare, including living expenses, education and counselling.

A sincere tribute

Paul Hepple said Poppie’s mother asked them to watch over her on the day of the tragedy.

While enjoying a Sunday dinner, they received the shocking news of the accident.

He described Poppie as a “bubbly” girl who adored Taylor Swift and noted that her family was loved in the community.

More than £31,000 has already been raised to help Poppie’s future, showing the deep sympathy and support of those around her.
