Artwork created by students has been unveiled at West Yorkshire’s North Station

by Joshua Robinson –

Passengers arriving at a train station in West Yorkshire will be greeted by a piece of art created by a group of talented teenagers. Five GCSE art students from Oastlers School in the Bradford were commissioned to create a piece of art, featuring landscapes from the north of England, for Steeton and Silsden Station.

The project, which was funded by Northwas delivered in partnership with Community Rail Lancashire who organized their journey through the region in search of inspiration.

For some of the children it was their first time using the railway and they were taught how to travel safely by train.

They decided to produce a painting depicting the railway line running from coast to coast, with images of Skipton, Lake District, Ribblehead Viaduct, Bradford, and Morecambe.

Their piece was unveiled during a ceremony in June at Steeton and Silsden station, which is operated by Northern.

Kerry Peters, Regional Director for the Northsaid: “This impressive work of art is a great addition to the station and will be enjoyed by customers for years to come.”

“We work closely with schools, community groups and station adoption groups to ensure the stations on our network are pleasant and welcoming places to visit.”

“It’s fantastic to see people of all ages committed to improving their local stations and taking pride in their communities.”

Northern is the UK’s second largest train operator, with 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations in the North of England.
