‘No doubt’… Pundit believes ‘sensational’ player could leave after linked with Leeds

Leeds United are likely to be busy in the transfer market with number 10 high on their agenda and an attacking midfielder the club continue to be linked with is expected to leave their current squad.

Leeds failed to bring in a playmaker last summer and saw Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter both play out of position in the No.10 role. Since then, Rutter has done his part, even if it started on Sunday.

Archie Gray was used as a number 10 under Daniel Farke on Sunday but there is no natural number 10 in this side of Leeds at the moment and it will certainly be an area that will be addressed regardless of the division Leeds are in .

One player Leeds continue to be linked with is Celtic star Matt O’Riley, who has just been announced as the Scottish team’s Player of the Season after being involved in 33 goals, more than Crysencio Summerville.

Leeds made a £10m bid to sign Danish star O’Riley last summer which was rejected and reports claim two of the Premier League’s top six are in talks with Celtic over a move for O’ Riley this summer.

Kenny Miller gave his verdict on O’Riley’s future on TalkSPORT (Monday, 7.41am) after he scored in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers on Saturday, all but securing their 12th title times in the last 13 seasons.

Kenny Miller expects Leeds target Matt O’Riley to leave in the summer

Reports recently suggested that Leeds would try to sign O’Riley this summer if the club were promoted to the Premier League, and while that remains a strong possibility, it appears that Leeds would have little chance of a deal being struck .

Indeed, it feels like a missed opportunity for Leeds considering they had the chance to sign him last August but failed to meet Celtic’s asking price. Now, Miller predicted that O’Riley will be on the move.

“It was sensational on Saturday. It hurts you to say this, but you have to be happy to see such a footballer here. He has just grown since joining the Celtic team. He is so easy on the eyes.

“If you add that end product then it can take your game to another level as a midfielder. There’s no doubt he could be one of the players that Brendan might need to replace, no doubt he’ll have suitors.”

How much will O’Riley cost if Celtic sell him this summer

Another reason why Leeds may have fallen behind in the race to land the Danish star is that reports claim O’Riley will cost £25m or more, which would be a Scottish record after Kieran Tierney.

Leeds will spend and bring in players for decent fees should the club win promotion back to the Premier League. But the chances of paying £25m on a player this summer, even if he is promoted, are unlikely.

Leeds will surely be looking to solidify what they have, which is already a Premier League standard squad and make some smart additions for the right money here or there, and O’Riley is an overpriced player.
