Lifeboats have been called to search for the missing person off the coast of Burnham-on-Sea

Lifeboat crews were called to help search for a missing person off the coast of Burnahm-on-Sea on Monday night, May 13. Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crews were contacted by Milford Haven coastguard at 9.36pm.

The D class lifeboat Burnham Reach was launched with four people on board. Atlantic 85 lifeboat Doris Day and Brian, including coxswain and coxswain, joined the search with both boats on the water by 9.56pm.




The D Class headed around Steart Island and searched east to west from Fenning Island along the Steart Marshes. Meanwhile, the Atlantic 85 crew started at Hinkley and moved from west to east.

The missing man was found by police near the west end of Steart Marshes within about 40 minutes. Both lifeboats were stopped by Milford and returned to Burnham for recovery and washing by the volunteer shore crew, with the station cleared by 11.30pm.

Coxswain Marc Smith said: “Both boats commenced inshore searches from their given starting positions, but within approximately 40 minutes of the search, police found the person at the west end of Steart Marshes. Fortunately, a positive result.”
