Tragedy A61: “Both girls were happy and wanted to be teachers – they were a delight”

A school has spoken of its “devastation” following the deaths of two of its pupils in a horrific car crash which also claimed the lives of their parents.

Athersley North Primary School, in Barnsley, paid an emotional tribute to little Rubie, nine, and her four-year-old sister Lillie Morgan-Roller, who were killed alongside their parents Shannen Morgan, 30, and Shane Roller, 33, on the A61 Barnsley Road between Barnsley and Wakefield on Sunday.




It comes as a fundraising effort for their 11-year-old sister Poppie, who was not in the car at the time of the tragedy, reaches £290,000.

In a statement, the school described the sisters – who both wanted to grow up to become teachers – as “happy” children who are “delighted to teach”.

“It is with the deepest sadness that we address the heartbreaking news about Rubie, Lillie and their parents,” it said. “So many people in our communities will feel this devastating, tragic loss.

“Rubie was a kind, happy and caring girl with a wonderful personality. She always worked hard and was well liked by her friends. She was a fantastic role model for her peers and aspired to be a teacher.

“Lillie was a bright, experienced and happy little girl who was a popular member of her class. She was creative and very determined. Like her older sister, she also aspired to be a teacher.
