Footprints Charity Launch Competition to Design Richard Whitehead’s Running Blades! – Nottingham local news

On 29 September 2024, Footprints Charity Patron Richard Whitehead MBE will once again officially start the Robin Hood Half Marathon and run the Half Marathon for Footprints. Richard has recently been awarded a Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon time by a bilateral knee amputee and is training hard for autumn marathons.

To celebrate, Footprints is running a competition for kids to design the blades Richard will ride in. The charity ran the competition in 2023 and it was a huge success, receiving over 80 creative entries from children across the UK. Imogen’s design, a brilliant Robin Hood themed entry, was chosen by Richard and announced as the winner, with a number of runners up due to the quality of the entries. Richard recently visited Imogen’s school, Rushcliffe Spencer Academy in West Bridgford, as part of her award.

Families can download the design template from the Footprints website and then scan/take a photo of their design and send it to (email protected). The deadline is 8th August and Richard will then decide the winner and the design will be produced, ready for Richard to wear on his running blades at the Robin Hood Half Marathon. The winner will also get the chance to go down to Embankment in Nottingham, meet Richard on the day and see the design in real life!

Footprints are proud to once again be a charity partner of the Robin Hood Marathon and have over 30 people on their team who take part in both the half marathon and mini marathon. They also have a team of volunteers who will be manning the event village, working as marshals and cheering on all the amazing runners. Last year the event raised over £13,000 for the Nottingham-based charity and is one of the key events in their fundraising, awareness and money calendar.
