Ryanair warns of five rules to follow when packing for a holiday

Ryanair has shared a number of useful tips for Brits to follow when it comes to packing for their holidays. Some airlines make you pay extra if you carry too much, so trying to cram everything into one bag can be difficult.

How about Ryanair, all its fares include a small carry-on bag. However, the bag must not be larger than 40x20x25 cm and must fit under the seat.

But if you want to add a handbag, it must fit in a 55x40x20cm box and weigh no more than ten kilograms. To help you handle your packing with minimal effort and hassle, Ryanair has some dos and don’ts to remember.

1. Don’t take your entire shoe collection

It can be tempting to bring a pair of shoes to match every outfit, but ask yourself, “do I really need them?” Ryanair recommends limiting yourself to three pairs of shoes and wearing the heaviest ones while at the airport.

2. Pack your shoes first

By putting your shoes in the suitcase first, you can line each side. You can also save space by filling your shoes with socks as well as small items such as gadgets, sockets or jewelry.

3. Avoid making marks on clothes with a shower cap

No one wants to ruin their clothes by the time you’ve unpacked on vacation. Ryanair recommends putting your shoes in a cloth or plastic bag before packing them. The airline even suggests picking up a free shower cap at the hotel to protect your clothing.

4. Share your luggage

If you happen to lose one of your suitcases en route to your destination, split your belongings between two pieces of luggage, especially if you’re traveling as a couple, so you have at least a few clothes and items.

5. Take your time packing your backpack

It goes without saying that you’ll be taking a backpack or shoulder bag on the plane, so Ryanair recommends you plan ahead. Place heavy objects in the middle of the backpack or as close to the back as possible. They say the ‘golden rule’ is – roll your clothes instead of folding them. This can give you more space and avoid wrinkling your clothes.
