Have your say on whether the two-child benefit cap should be removed

One of Coventry’s MPs made national headlines today after she and others were suspended from the Labor party. Zarah Sultana, who represents Coventry South, voted for an SNP amendment to remove the two-child benefit cap.

As a result of the rebellion, Sir Keir Starmer suspended her from the Labor Party for six months. Ms Sultana told ITV’s Good Morning Britain this morning that she had “slept well after taking a stand against child poverty”.

She claimed that in her Coventry South constituency, up to 10,000 children – one in three – live in poverty. But Labor says the policy, introduced by a previous Conservative government, is financially unfeasible.

Many people have their say online. On Ms Sultana’s social media pages, some congratulated her on her decision, with one follower saying “thank you for fighting for the most vulnerable in society”. But not everyone agrees, with others labeling her actions “virtue signaling.”
