Man arrested in connection with crash that killed 6 between Barnsley and Wakefield

A man has been arrested in connection with a crash between Wakefield and Barnsley – in which six people – including a family of four died.

Shane Roller, Shannen Morgan and their children Rubie Morgan-Roller and Lillie Morgan-Roller were traveling in a Ford Focus.

Christopher Barton, 56, and Janine Barton, 48, were traveling on a BMW S100 XR motorcycle.

It happened just before four o’clock Sunday afternoon.

A police statement said:

“Police investigating a road traffic collision on the A61 between Wakefield and Barnsley in which six people died have arrested a man.

“Emergency services received reports of the collision, which happened near the village of Staincross, Barnsley, at 3.54pm on Sunday afternoon.

“Six people, including four adults and two children, died on the spot.

“Shane Roller, 33, Shannen Morgan, 30, Rubie Morgan-Roller, nine, and Lillie Morgan-Roller, four, were traveling in a Ford Focus.

“Christopher Barton, 56, and Janine Barton, 48, were traveling on a BMW S100 XR motorcycle.

“A man was arrested this morning on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody at this time.

“Detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Investigation Team have issued an appeal for anyone who may have seen a gray Porsche 911 driven in the area around the time of the collision.

“They also want to contact anyone who may have dash cam, CCTV or buzzer footage of the car and how it was driven.”

Detective Sergeant Steven Suggitt said:

“I would like to appeal for anyone who may have seen this gray Porsche 911 being driven on the roads south of Wakefield or north of Barnsley to contact us.

“I would also urge anyone who has a dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage of this car that could assist our investigation to contact us.”
