Joe Hugill completes move to Wigan Athletic on season-long loan

Joe Hugill has joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old striker was due to go on the pre-season tour with the first team but stayed in the UK to complete his move to the League One side.

Hugill joins Latics and will be hoping to gain more first team experience over the course of next season.

The former Sunderland academy player spent the second half of last season at Burton Albion, so has already experienced League One football. This time he will aim to score more goals.

Hugill scored in United’s second pre-season friendly of the summer against Rangers last weekend.

He spoke to Wigan’s club media about the move, saying: “I’m very excited to be here. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m over the moon to get it done and can’t wait to get started.

“Getting the number nine shirt is a huge honor and I will wear it with pride. Hopefully I can show what I can do with it.”

Hugill looks excited to start at Wigan and we wish him the best of luck next season.

The aim will be to develop him further and return to United as a better player.
