Special messages appear in London stations ahead of Brighton Pride – South London News

With Britain’s biggest Pride event just a week away, a rail network has unveiled special messages at stations across the capital.

To celebrate Brighton’s annual Pride celebrations, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) – which provides train services to and from Brighton – has teamed up with writers, performers and artists from LGBTQ+ community to share what Pride means to them.

The operator revealed the “Words of Pride”, which are now on display at Croydon East, London Blackfriars, Gatwick Airport and Brighton until August 5.

Quotations to look for include words from Gemma Rolls-Bentley, curator and author of Queer Art: From Canvas to Club and the Spaces Between.

Ms Rolls-Bentley said: “Pride is a time to celebrate the joy, love and culture of queer life, while reminding people of the things we’re still fighting for.”

With the weekend looking sunny, the rail operator is urging people to plan their journeys ahead of time.

As in previous years, GTR has been working closely with Pride organizers alongside the council and has confirmed it will run an improved service to transport people to and from Brighton, with extra trains and increased capacity.

More information can be found below and on South and Thameslink websites.

Chris Fowler, Head of Network Operations at Govia Thameslink Railway, said: “Brighton Pride is the biggest event on our network and the atmosphere it creates in the city every year is fantastic.

“With so many people making the journey from London to Brighton, bringing the voices of the LGBTQ+ community to a wider audience will help educate and raise awareness of why Pride exists.

“We hope people enjoy reading Words of Pride on their travels and have a great time at the event.”
