Leicester look to beat West Ham at Arsenal winger

Leicester have submitted an initial loan bid for Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson with an obligation to buy.

The Foxes have entered the race to sign the 24-year-old who has expressed his desire to leave Arsenal this summer in search of regular first-team football.

Nelson signed a new long-term deal with the North Londoners last summer but was unable to fit into Mikel Arteta’s plans and played just 257 minutes in the Premier League last season.

Interest is high at home and Leicester are looking to make a competitive run with new head coach Steve Cooper having previously worked with Nelson during his time coaching England at youth level. Nelson has impressed under Cooper, scoring 11 goals in 11 appearances for the England U-17s.

Leicester are hoping this connection can help the newly-promoted Foxes beat West Ham to his signature. The club’s tight finances mean their initial offer is a loan, according to Fabrizio Romano, with an obligation to make the move permanent.

Nelson could become Leicester’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following deals for Abdul Issahaku Fatawu, Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli and Bobby Decordova-Reid.
