The ‘Home of Doritos’ factory in Coventry is getting a huge investment

A huge £13m investment in the ‘home of Doritos’ in Coventry has been announced. The Coventry site is Europe’s largest tortilla chip factory and has been making Doritos since it was launched in the UK 30 years ago.

PepsiCo’s investment will see a production line replaced with new equipment, including more efficient machinery, which will reduce the site’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than 700 tonnes per year. The new production line will continue to produce the Doritos range in the UK, including Doritos Dippers, which last year became the first Doritos product to be classified as non-HFSS.

The popularity of Doritos continues to grow, with almost a third of UK households buying Doritos, with sales of £237 million after growing by more than 20% over the past two years. PepsiCo Chief Product Officer Layla Whiting said: “We’ve been perfecting the tortilla chip here in Coventry for the past three decades and I’m proud of our role in helping to build a loyal Doritos fan base and making brand a known name. in the UK, this investment marks our commitment to the teams that have played such an important role in Doritos’ success over the years and to our home in Coventry as we celebrate our 30th birthday.”

The investment has also funded an extensive upgrade of on-site staff facilities, with work recently completed on refurbished workspaces, new changing rooms, a brand new training center and a fully refurbished on-site restaurant. The new training center will increase on-site training opportunities with replica equipment that gives team members the opportunity to develop their skills outside of the factory.

It is the latest in a series of investments in UK manufacturing sites, with total investment in 2020 now in excess of £140m. The investment in Coventry, alongside last year’s £58m investment in the Walkers manufacturing facility in Leicester, reaffirms PepsiCo’s commitment to the Midlands region, where it employs more than 2,100 people across its sites in Leicester, Coventry and Lincoln .
