Live updates as police close East Lancs Road following the crash

The East Lancashire Road is partially closed following an accident.

According to the Inrix traffic management system, the East Lancashire road is closed in both directions. There is reportedly heavy traffic due to an accident on Townsend Avenue at Lower House Lane.

Several bus diversions are also in place, including services 17, 17A and 19. Eyewitnesses said traffic was “chaotic” and all emergency services were in attendance.
