Tram fans were left stranded on the tram after an ‘air pressure problem’ in Sheffield

Revelers heading to a weekend of bands and beer at Sheffield’s Tramlines Festival were stuck on a tram for 10 minutes after an “air pressure problem” – which caused major problems on the roads.

The incident unfolded at 12.45pm on Friday afternoon as music fans were preparing for The View at the festival at 1.15pm, but incredible bad luck struck. A streetcar supported a line of streetcars on the downtown rail/road circuit on West Street. Find more updates from the festival here.

After a few minutes, commuters were told they couldn’t go anywhere before the service ended, with nowhere else to go. Commuters were then left to struggle to reach the venue in mad dashes for taxis, an hour’s walk away.

One commuter said: “It’s a joke. I’m going to miss The View now – and they were the band I wanted to see the most. Someone asked the driver as they were getting off “Is it the hell? he replied “Yes”.

Explaining the situation as it unfolded, they said: “They started to let people go but said people might as well stay as this would be the first team at Hillsborough but then told them everyone to get off and it was done. an hour’s walk from this point.”

Adding: “Anyone who gets a tram won’t be able to get there from the city center until it’s fixed.”

A Supertram spokesman said: “We are sorry for passengers experiencing delays and cancellations on the Yellow and Blue routes after a tram broke down on West Street earlier this afternoon. The tram has now been moved and we are working hard to get back to normal as quickly as possible.”
