A woman sexually abused an autistic boy while working at a school in Yorkshire

A pedophile who worked at a North Yorkshire school has been jailed for a series of sexual abuses against a boy who was under 16.

Acasia Welburn, now 26, of New Road in Telford, was jailed for two-and-a-half years on Friday (July 26).



She pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust. Welburn appeared at York Crown Court for sentencing.

Welburn’s reign of abuse took place while she worked at a school in North Yorkshire, where she worked in a position of trust.

Welburn began sexual contact with a teenager who was autistic. She initially made contact with the boy on social media, which involved sharing sexual messages and images. A shocking string of abuse ensued as he met the victim regularly and sexually abused her in her car and apartment.

Detective Constable Alison Morris from North Yorkshire Police’s non-recent sexual abuse team said: “I cannot praise the victim enough for the incredible courage and determination she has shown.

“This is another case that demonstrates that it is possible for victims to seek and receive justice. We encourage anyone who has been affected by any crime to contact the police, you will be supported and listened to.”
