Isles of Scilly ferry operators insist new service ‘will start this season’

The operator of a new passenger ferry to the Isles of Scilly has issued an update after its maiden voyage was delayed. Scilly Ferries apologized to passengers but insisted the service will start this summer.

The bright yellow and black catamaran Atlantic Wolff arrived in Cornwall a week ago and was due to depart on Monday 22nd July. However, the voyage has been rejected as the ship’s parent company Harland & Wolff (H&W) tries to secure its future. with a new credit line of £200m.

Scilly Ferries recently stated that the Atlantic Wolff is due to sail from Penzance next Tuesday 20th August. Steve Sims, lead member for tourism and economy on the Isles of Scilly Council, said that while the new service would be a welcome addition for visitors and islanders, it seemed “a bit unnecessary starting at the end of the season”.
