Daniel Farke’s friendly verdict at Schalke 04

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke spoke to LUTV after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Schalke 04.

Goals from Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe ensured the Whites were victorious for the second game in a row in Germany’s pre-season training camp.

Farke was pleased his side were able to claim another win as preparations continue for Portsmouth’s arrival at Elland Road on the opening day of the league season.

“I’m happy with the game overall, if I’m honest, even happier than our easy win against Hannover 96 just a few days ago, because his was a challenge like at championship level.

“We had the game with a lot of praise, we were there with a top performance and it was an easy win from the start.

“Three days later you play a game on a difficult pitch against a really physical opponent and the boys were tired, not having a day off for two weeks and also the last few days were focused on team building on top of our training. sessions, with go-karting and a barbecue.

“I think it was a bit of a poor start in the first 20-25 minutes but the way we fought in this game, in the last 20 minutes of the first half we had good chances and we should have scored in the second as well half was fantastic with two great goals.

“Overall, I’m pretty happy with the game and another free stretch, there’s no substitute for wins and clean sheets, it’s good to have that feeling.

“Everything was pretty much perfect on the trip, we had perfect training conditions and mostly really good weather, not today but overall and it was great to have the boys together 24 hours a day to work on the spirit of the team and integrate the boys. which arrived a little later and new autographs.

“We have two weeks to prepare for our first game that really counts and we still have work to do, but this trip has been pretty successful.”
