Police ‘monitor’ Bradford Park horse fair

POLICE are ‘monitoring’ a horse fair which has arrived at a Bradford park.

A member of the public saw a number of people setting up on Odsal Village Green, off Stadium Road, on Friday.

The Telegraph & Argus visited the area today and noticed a large number of caravans on the grounds, with horses also on display and people wandering around.

A horse and cart went up and down Cleckheaton Road at one point.

The person who saw the fair first run said the event was not advertised and added that local families and dog walkers usually use the park.

She spoke to local councilors about the situation and Councilor Sarah Ferriby (Lab, Wyke) told the T&A she had been informed and reported the matter to Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Bradford Police have been made aware of the fair and local NPT officers are monitoring the event.”

A Facebook profile named Jr Price has posted several times in recent weeks detailing the fair.

The first post on July 10 was accompanied by a video and read: “Guys it’s fair date…let’s make it big. Everyone shares.”

It was originally dated for August 3rd and 4th, but Jr Price said this was wrong and was actually taking place on July 27th and 28th.

Today was “JR’s fair day” and tomorrow is called “Jr and Billy Lowther”.

A July 11 post said a postcode for the event would be “pressing in the next few days” and that there would be “plenty of room for everyone.”

On Monday the postcode was shared as ‘Qgardens Bradford this Saturday BD61BJ’.

Cllr Ferriby said the park has a padlocked barrier as well as rocks in front and “shouldn’t be there”.

She added: “I drove past this morning, it looks like a horse fair – I couldn’t see how many horses, caravans or people were there.”

T&A has contacted Leeds GATE (Gypsy & Traveler Exchange) and Jr Price for comment but has yet to hear back.
