Then a permanent fixture at the Gunners, Georgson spent a year in north London before leaving to take up a job as sporting manager at Malmo in 2021.

Arsenal promptly replaced him with Nicolas Jover, who remains at the club to this day.

Georgson spent several years with Malmo, acting as interim manager for a few months in 2022, then as technical director. But he returned to England in August 2023 to become Southampton’s manager.

Just five months later, Georgson was on the move again, accepting a head coaching job with Lillestrom on a three-year deal in January this year. After six months, he joined Manchester United.

United have confirmed that Georgson will work as a first-team coach with the club. Erik ten Hag remains manager, with Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy as assistant managers.

Georgson will then work as first team coach alongside Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher. These three do not appear to be considered assistant managers like Hake and van Nistelrooy.

Perhaps Georgson will now find a place to settle long-term, although you never know with Manchester United.

The timing of the announcement is coincidental, with United set to face Arsenal in a friendly on Saturday night (01:00 BST Sunday UK time).
