The Coventry splash pad ‘will be closed for the rest of the year’ after the flood damage

A popular water play area in Coventry will not reopen this year, the council has said. The splash ‘n’ play feature at War Memorial Park is usually open during the summer holidays.

But just days after the summer break, on July 24, the council confirmed the splash pad “remains closed” following flood damage. Asked when the popular attraction would reopen, the council said it could not give an exact date.

However, he confirmed that the play area will not reopen this year, in response to questions from the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS). The splash zone has 36 water jets and other water features for ages under 8 and 8-12. .

It’s the only outdoor splash park in the city, according to family guide Coventry Rocks. Two others are nearby, but of these only one will open this summer as the Victoria Park children’s pool in Leamington Spa requires repairs.

In 2021, Coventry’s splash zone underwent maintenance work, including a “full service” and deep clean. The year before, the council considered paying £1 to use the splash park to save £15,000 on its upkeep, but scrapped the plan after backlash from both the public and councillors.

In a statement yesterday, July 25, a council spokesman said: “The water play area at the War Memorial Park remains closed after a flood occurred in the pump room which caused significant damage to the main area which powers the function. We apologize for the inconvenience and you know how disappointing this is for children of all ages.

“The play feature was installed in 2004 and there were already plans to make much needed repairs. In the meantime, there’s still plenty of fun for families in our wonderful park. Visit coventry.gov.uk/wmp for more. “
