Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Southport. Merseyside Police were called just after 5.30pm on Saturday July 27 to reports of a stabbing inside a property on Albert Road in Southport.

An air ambulance was seen landing on a grass verge on Fleetwood Road, near Hesketh Golf Club, as police descended on the area. Witnesses reported seeing several police cars in the area of ​​Park Crescent and Albert Road on the north side of Hesketh Park.




A police cordon was also seen outside a block of flats. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and is described as being in stable condition, police said. Merseyside Police did not confirm whether the victim was male or female or their ages.

Detective Chief Inspector Suffield said: “Our officers are determined to root out anyone storing, carrying and using weapons through the proactive use of stop and search powers, open ground searches, warrants and educational work alongside partners.

“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family, but also for the offenders involved. I would urge people to educate themselves and talk to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.”
