The best and worst doctors in Leicester and Leicestershire, according to patients

The best and worst doctors in Leicester and county have been revealed, according to patients. LeicestershireLive and the Reach Data Unit have crunched the numbers to identify the 20 best and worst rated local surgeries and you can check how your doctor compares using our interactive gadget.

Every year the NHS surveys patients across the country about the care they receive from their GP surgery. Patients are asked to give their views on their practice on a number of different topics, from the overall experience to how easy it is to contact the surgery and how much they trust their GP. Data for this year’s patient survey was collected between early January and late March.

The survey found that just under three quarters of patients (72%) in the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care System area said the overall experience at their surgery was “good”. This is below the England average of 74 per cent. But 15% of patients in our region said theirs was “poor”, which is worse than the England average of 13%.

However, Dr Nil Sanganee, clinical director of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board (LLR ICB), said the survey was only open to a select number of patients and had carried out its own local surveys. Dr Sanganee said they showed that overall 80 per cent of respondents found the GP receptionist helpful and 82 per cent said they had a good experience with health professionals who had take care of them.

According to national patient data, the top rated practice in our region was Dr SJC Clay’s surgery, where 98% of people said their overall experience was ‘good’. Amy Weightman, assistant director of surgery, said: “We are delighted to have been rated the highest GP practice in the recent survey. We are so pleased that our patients feel so positively about the service we provide. With all the current struggles within the NHS and particularly in general practice, we are very proud of our whole team for providing our patients with excellent care and access.”

The second highest was Manor House Surgery, in Belton, Loughborough, with 97 per cent, followed by Charnwood Surgery, in Mountsorrel, Loughborough, with 95 per cent. A spokesperson for Charnwood Surgery said: “We would like to take the time to say a huge thank you to all our patients who completed the latest GP survey questionnaire.

“We are humbled by our fantastic results at a time when the health service is under immense pressure. These results would not be possible without the immense dedication of our incredible team and their families, the support of our network and local federation, Integrated Healthcare. board, the amazing encouragement of our wonderful patients and the blessings we have received.
