Alan Nixon shares key transfer update in pursuit of Sheffield Wednesday’s Ike Ugbo

Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit of Ike Ugbo continues as they are offered a price tag for the former Owls loanee.

The Owls have managed to bring in nine arrivals so far ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.

Bodies have been added to the pitch as German boss Danny Rohl looks to bolster his options and build on last season’s miraculous survival in the Championship.

The attacking additions have certainly been identified as important by Rohl as he has brought a goal-scoring ability to the Championship with the likes of Jamal Lowe having recently plyed his trade with Swansea City and Bournemouth.

Charlie McNeill has also been brought in following his release from Manchester United, however Rohl remains adamant about bringing in another striker ahead of the new campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit of Ike Ugbo has taken time, but the picture surrounding the Canadian is becoming clearer as his price is revealed.

Sheffield Wednesday target Ike Ugbo has been priced out of £4.5m by Troyes

After a successful loan spell last season, Ugbo has been on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar, with Rohl keen to bring the striker back to S6.

However, according to Alan Nixon on Patreon, Troyes valued Ugbo at “around £4.5m”, with Sheffield Wednesday “unlikely to reach that level and hoping to reach a compromise”.

League One side Birmingham City have also proved keen on bringing in the former Owls striker, however, Ugbo is reportedly against ‘relegating to League One’.

The 25-year-old was instrumental in saving Sheffield Wednesday last season, scoring seven goals in 18 league appearances.

Sheffield Wednesday target Ike Ugbo warrants a reported £4.5m price tag

It is clear that the fee Sheffield Wednesday are expected to pay to retain Ugbo’s services ahead of the 2024/25 campaign is in the higher echelons of what they were expecting, something that could easily force the Owls to look elsewhere in their pursuit. for a striker.

Ugbo was crucial when called upon following his January transfer window arrival last season on loan, and the Owls would not have been able to stay up without the Canada international.

However, for such a high price, Sheffield Wednesday could easily look elsewhere for a striker and bring in someone who has proven his ability to score goals at this level on a consistent basis.

If Sheffield Wednesday can tempt Troyes to drop the figure below £3m then they can be happy with a deal to bring Ugbo back to Hillsborough, otherwise other targets should be identified quickly.
