Family ‘traumatized’ as 40 Jet2 passengers ‘turn flight into party’

A Jet2 passenger says his family were left traumatized by “shouting, swearing and drinking” crowds on a flight to Ibiza. John Williams, 50, was on the flight to Ibiza with his son, daughter and wife and says that after being in the air for 25 minutes, around 40 people got up and they started causing chaos in the hallway.

He said passengers were standing, shouting and sitting in the aisle, ignoring safety signs to fasten their seat belts. The video captured by John shows passengers gathering in the middle of the aisle while the seat belt indicator was on. John said: “I flew over the weekend to celebrate my daughter’s 13th birthday on July 13th.

“Unfortunately, the outbound flight was the worst flight I have experienced in over 40 years of flying. My little girl was left traumatized. A flight attendant called it a fun bus,” he claimed. John added: “Over 30 passengers used the flight as a party; they drank excessively, swore, shouted, threw objects in the aisle, blocked other passengers.

“The flight attendants did virtually nothing to stop the dangerous behavior. Even to the point where the seat belt lights were on and yet they partied and yet the staff did nothing to stop the behaviour.”

John claimed flight staff who continued to serve alcohol “fuelled” the chaos. “I tried to flag it down (to the staff), I said it was compromising safety. The host said, ‘This is a fun bus.’

“It was absolutely disgusting. My son was upset, my daughter was anxious. These people were throwing things down the aisle, the staff didn’t do anything about it. It was unbelievable to watch.”

John said: “I thought I had to film, it was totally unacceptable. I felt really unsafe on that plane. We had to be careful, (passengers) shouted and cursed us.

“It’s not about a refund, it’s about holding them accountable for that behavior on that aircraft. Other passengers had their heads down. Another family was sitting two rows in front of us, they were silent.”
