Teenagers arrested after boy ‘attacked and robbed’ in Birmingham park

Two teenagers have been arrested after a third boy was attacked and robbed in a Birmingham park. It happened in Burbury Park in Newtown at around 3.30pm on Friday, July 26.

West Midlands Police said a 13-year-old boy was riding his scooter through the park when he was approached by two 14-year-olds. They allegedly attacked him and then took his scooter.



The incident was witnessed by plainclothes police officers from the Project Guardian team, which is responsible for youth violence and knife crime. Officers gave chase, arrested two suspects and returned the scooter to the victim.

The Project Guardian team tweeted: “Arrests. Right place, right time for plainclothes officers from Squad 2 when we saw two men steal a scooter from a 13-year-old boy in Burbury Park Newtown. After a short chase, both were arrested for robbery and the stolen scooter returned to the victim.”

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “The victim was on his scooter in Burbury Park when he was approached by two 14-year-olds at around 3.30pm on Friday 26 July. They assaulted him and then took his scooter.

“Plain-clothed officers were in the park at the time and witnessed the offense and then ran after them. Two 14-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and have both been released on bail as inquiries continue.”
