An Edgware organization is running a series of workshops to help local residents repair or alter their old or damaged clothes.

The Skills Center workshops will offer expert advice on how to repair clothing, allowing residents who want to learn a new skill, reduce waste or simply add to their wardrobe, the opportunity to learn hand sewing techniques on which they can continue at home.

The first session took place on Sunday 21st July and will be followed by more in September and November.

Alterations that will be taught at the center include patching jeans, fixing holes in knitwear, raising hems or taking in skirts. The workshop will also provide fabrics for beginners, before trying out the alterations on your own clothes.

These workshops will complement the Skills Centre’s regular program of pre-employment programs, boot camps and apprenticeships for local residents looking to break into the construction industry.

The center specializes in green building skills and is delivered through a partnership between The Skills Centre, Ballymore and Places for London as part of a commitment to creating opportunities that benefit Edgware residents.

The workshops run from 11.30am to 1pm at Edgware Skills Centre, 158 Station Road, Edgware, HA8 7AW (the old Argos building) on 22 Septemberwhen and November 24th.
