Liverpool star Harvey Elliott knows who he wants as the next England manager

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott has thrown his support behind Lee Carsley for the England national team head coaching job, suggesting he is up for the big job following Gareth Southgate’s departure.

The young Liverpool star is also optimistic that Carsley’s potential promotion could pave the way for his own entry into the Three Lions’ senior squad as he looks forward to his first senior call-up.

Elliott, who flourished under Carsley during England’s European Under-21 Championship campaign last summer, believes his former boss has what it takes to succeed Southgate. Coming off the bench in England’s final victory over Spain, Elliott witnessed Carsley’s managerial talent first-hand.

With speculation rife over Southgate’s successor, names such as Eddie Howe and Graham Potter are being touted as front-runners, while fanciful whispers among fans include Pep Guardiola and ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Despite doubts expressed about Carsley’s fitness for such a prestigious position, Elliott has no reservations.

He praised Carsley this week on the Reds’ tour of the US, saying via Mirror Sport: “Lee is an incredible manager and an incredible guy. He is ready to step forward. There have been a lot of big clubs sniffing around him and that’s credit. for himself and his coach.”

Elliott also expressed his enjoyment of playing for England under Carsley: “Whenever I step on the pitch for England I have the freedom to enjoy my football. I feel he is ready. There are conversations for them (at FA).”

Elliott, currently with Liverpool in the US, has been overlooked for England’s senior squad this summer. Despite an outstanding season at Anfield, he did not make Southgate’s initial 33-man squad, unlike fellow players Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, who were later cut in the final 26 for Germany.
