Hull FC have been hit with two injury problems to pair with possible bans

Hull FC head coach Simon Grix has revealed that center Liam Sutcliffe picked up a leg injury in the club’s 24-16 defeat to Catalans Dragons.

It marks yet another outside back injury for the club after Davy Litten saw his season end with an MCL injury during the win against Wigan Warriors.

The center position has troubled Hull FC all season, with former club captain Carlos Tuimavave having recurring problems, however the 32-year-old was in form yesterday and managed to get on the scoresheet.

In the end, tries from Tuimavave, Jack Walker and Lewis Martin were not enough for the Black and Whites to claim a second straight win and the hosts got the better of the heat.

Speaking to BBC Humberside after the game, Hull FC head coach Simon Grix expressed his disappointment and noted how the two red cards affected the game.

“There is a sense of disappointment. It was a tough old game, I thought both teams were engaged. Playing 12 v 12 took away a lot of what you practice in structure.

Tariq Sims and Ligi Sao were both sent off in the first 15 minutes, with Sims walking off for moving an injured player and Sao adjudged to have stepped on Sam Tomkins, who Grix accused of “playing the game” in -another incident involving Jack Walker. .

It’s not just Liam Sutcliffe who has been a concern for Hull FC, but recently loaned King Vuniyayawa, with the striker suffering a sprained ankle in the first half.

The Salford man played bravely but was left “struggling”, according to Grix, as he provided an injury update when speaking to BBC Humberside.

“Unfortunately, King is struggling and Sutty seems to be a bad one. It’s a leg injury, but the way he’s playing at the moment (doesn’t look good).

“King is maybe a sprained ankle. He was visibly uncomfortable coming out after the second half, we knew we had it at half-time, but he wanted to do his bit for the team and go out and see what he can get through.”

For Grix, there were two more missed points and it all came down to a slow start. Despite being back in the game, he also claimed his team didn’t deserve to win.

“We dipped our toe to start the game and obviously got off to a bad start so it was disappointing. I think the damage was done early in the game.

“I won’t say it’s broken pride because I don’t think we deserved to win, I thought they did enough to win but a lot of disappointment in the gym.”

Facing a St Helens side on a five-game skid, Hull FC may be without both Sutcliffe and Vuniyayawa, while they will have disciplinary concerns over Sao and possibly even Walker for the knock to Tomkins.
