Man fighting for his life after street brawl in ‘hipster’ Yorkshire town

A man suffered serious head injuries and is fighting for his life after a brawl broke out on Hebden Bridge on Saturday night.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Crown Street at 8.57pm last night (July 27) following reports of a fight in progress between two men.




The police and the ambulance went to the scene and found a 50-year-old man unconscious. The victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, which are believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect fled the scene. Police have since arrested a 30-year-old man and investigations are ongoing.

Hebden Bridge is known for its ‘hipster’ vibes, with individual shops and a ‘goodness’ ethos that is promoted across the town and the Calder Valley. Violence in the city is low compared to neighboring cities such as Halifax and Huddersfield.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating following a serious assault in Hebden Bridge on Saturday evening. Officers were called at 8.57pm on July 27 to reports of a fight in progress between two men on Crown Street.

“Police and ambulance attended the scene and found a 50-year-old man unconscious. The suspect fled the scene. The victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, which are believed to be life-threatening.
