Crashed car bursts into flames on Birmingham street as ‘men flee with Monopoly game’

Two men ran from a wrecked car that burst into flames on a Birmingham street carrying a Monopoly game, witnesses have told BirminhgamLive. Video footage shows the moment flames engulfed the vehicle in Balsall Heath at the weekend.

The dramatic incident happened at a solicitors’ building, between the junction of Alcester Road and Edgbaston Road East, at around 5.30pm last night, Sunday 28 July. Witnesses said two men, in their 30s, quickly packed up. goods and abandoned the car.




A fire crew was called to extinguish the blaze while police investigated the bizarre scene. A 28-year-old witness, who asked not to be named, told BirminghamLive: “I heard a car crash – screeching brakes and then a pretty loud car crash. I saw the car crash into the side of a building.

“I then saw two men inside it get out. They quite frantically emptied all their belongings from the car, filling bags and simply abandoned the car. Oddly enough, I could see that one of the items they took was Monopoly.

“There were quite large bags that they were filling from the trunk and from the car. The moment they left, I saw smoke coming out of the car. I’m not sure if it was intentional or not. The fire took hold very quickly.”


Several people called the emergency services, and the police and firemen intervened on the scene. A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman told BirminghamLive: “Shortly after 5.20pm on Sunday 28 July, a fire engine from Bournbrook responded to Alcester Road, Moseley. A car had crashed into the wall of a shop and was on fire. Firefighters used two hoses. fire extinguisher reels There were no injuries or casualties.

“Alcester Road was closed in this area for approximately 30 minutes while we worked at the scene. It was reopened a short time later. Colleagues arranged for the vehicle to be recovered and we left the scene shortly before 6pm “.
