Flooding has hit Leicester General Hospital with several crews at the scene

Emergency services are currently dealing with major flooding at Leicester General Hospital. On Saturday (July 27), several fire crews were sent to hospital following an “alarm activation”.

On arrival Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) discovered significant flooding in a utility corridor. Images released by LFRS show the extent of the flooding in the hospital.

A spokesman for the service said: “The initial call came in at 4.12am on Saturday 27 July to an alarm at Leicester General Hospital.”

The cause was identified as a ruptured water ring, which caused water to rise rapidly in the utility corridor. Crews deployed multiple pumps in an effort to control rising water levels.

It is unclear at this time what damage has been caused or if hospital services have been disrupted as a result of the flooding. LeicestershireLive has contacted University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust for comment.
