Sporting Lisbon pay Coventry City after Viktor Gyokeres’ clause is triggered

Coventry City’s release clause for Viktor Gyokeres was slashed by five per cent after Sporting Lisbon paid the Championship club €1m (£843,500) in addition to the player meeting “certain objectives” on during the season.

This form has made Gyokeres one of the hottest goalscorers in Europe and has attracted the attention of a host of clubs as a result, with Arsenal and Chelsea regularly linked with a player who has a release clause of €100m (£84m).

If Gyokeres is sold for £84m, City will receive 10% of the £64m (£6.4m).
