Warrington Wolves are keeping HIA result under wraps amid concerns ahead of Hull KR clash

Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess has not revealed whether Paul Vaughan has passed his head injury assessment ahead of the big game against Hull Kingston Rovers.

Prop Vaughan had a late HIA as Warrington were convincing 40-4 winners at Wigan on Friday night, who they overcame to go top of Super League. Warrington, Rovers and Wigan are all level on 28 points at the top, although Matty Peet’s men have a game in hand.

Vaughan was the match-winner with a late try against Rovers early last year – so it would be a blow for them if a failed HIA rules him out of the sides’ meeting on Friday night at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Asked about it in the post-match press conference, Burgess said: “I don’t know yet. He’s very well there, but we thought he might have had a bump on his head. I think he’ll be fine. It looks like the fine .”

Matt Dufty was sent off for a tackle on Liam Marshall, meaning he could face a ban as they sweat the findings of the match review panel, with James Harrison already suspended.

Warrington, however, are set to hand their debut to winger John Bateman, who has been loaned from Wests Tigers for the rest of the season. The second row has been an area of the pitch where Rovers have lacked depth this season.

Despite the wide margin of victory for the Wire on Friday, Burgess identified Wigan’s physicality and kicking as areas that tested them.
