Police in Bristol are trying to trace four people they believe were “key witnesses” to a double stabbing in the city last month (Sunday June 9).

Between 4.30am and 4.45am that morning, Avon and Somerset (AS) Police were called to reports of a disturbance in Rawnsley Park, off Stapleton Road. Two people were taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, although both have since been released. Eleven people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but to date, none have been charged with a crime.

Today AS Police are releasing CCTV footage from the junction of Easton Way with Stapleton Road which they believe shows four key witnesses.

Anyone who recognizes the people in the footage is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 5224148270.

A stabbing epidemic in Bristol

Bristol is currently dealing with a spate of stabbings the likes of which the city has never seen before.

In the 12 months to July, 15 people were killed in the force area in incidents involving knives.

Since the start of 2024, four people are known to have lost their lives in such incidents on the streets of Bristol, while there have been many others, including the incident on 9 June, where people were stabbed and survived.

Rawnsley Park in particular has become a hotspot for such incidents.

Darrian Williams, 16, died in February after being stabbed in the park, while a 30-year-old man was injured after being stabbed nearby just four days earlier, Thursday, July 25.

Five people arrested in connection with that attack have all since been released under investigation.

Many different groups and organizations in the community are now coming together to try to reduce such incidents.

On 23 July, the University of Bristol announced the start of a research project looking at what policies used around the world are helping to make things better.
