Live as firefighters battle the Meltham Moor blaze overnight with roads blocked

Firefighters have blocked a Kirklees road in both directions as they continue to battle a moorland blaze.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has blocked Wessenden Head Road in both directions from the A635 at Holme to Leygards Lane in Meltham. They have been battling a fire in the West Nab area of ​​Meltham since 8pm last night.

The roadblock is affecting traffic between Greenfield and Meltham, although the second turning at the Huntsman Inn in Thick Hollins Road is accessible.

In a statement issued last night, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Fire crews dealt with a large amount of burning moorland in the West Nab area of ​​Meltham overnight. They use beaters and blowers to put out the fire, along with specialist bushfire equipment.”
